This is what the police are for. I’m assuming you didn’t get a police report, so basically you’re nearly screwed.

call the police. if you did the right thing, you waited for the police to come and make a report before you let the guy go if you knew you wanted to make a claim

not something you’d need to worry about really, leave it up to your insurance company to do the needed things and get your car fixed. Why are you attempting to call him anyway?

And the information you need will be on the police report. Make sure your insurance has a copy of it.

I just left the Insurance industry as a claims adjuster, so I am pretty familiar with Policy numbers and who they belong to. I would follow-up with a local agent, not the kind that only handle a specific Insurance company (reason being they are not as exposed to different companies and the guys who handle multiple accounts). Don’t worry about the Police issue, as most of the time they never show up. You can still file an "over the counter" report at the station, just to get a report filed. You are going to need a whole lot more than a policy number though…plate number? person’s name? You have their phone number and address, so that should help a lot too. If the insurance agent turns out to be a bust, I would definitely pursue the Police option, as this person is at this point in violation of the law. Hope this helps!

Go to his address and ask him. Be very polite. Do not go inside. Take a witness. NOT your girlfriend or daddy, a credible, adult witness, not a relative.
If he refuses to answer or open the door, call the police. They can help you get the info you need.
